Ocarina of Time Story
A LONG TIME AGO...
BEFORE TIME BEGAN, BEFORE THE WORLD HAD FORM, THREE GOLDEN GODDESSES DESCENDED UPON THE CHAOTIC LAND OF HYRULE. THEY WERE DIN, THE GODDESS OF POWER, NAYRU, THE GODDESS OF WISDOM AND FARORE, THE GODDESS OF COURAGE.
DIN, WITH HER STRONG FLAMING ARMS, CULTIVATED THE LAND TO CREATE THE EARTH. NAYRU POURED HER WISDOM ONTO THE EARTH TO GIVE THE SPIRIT OF LAW TO THE WORLD. FARORE'S RICH SOUL CREATED ALL LIFE FORMS WHO WOULD UPHOLD THE LAW.
THESE THREE GREAT GODDESSES RETURNED TO THE HEAVENS, LEAVING BEHIND THE GOLDEN SACRED TRIFORCE. SINCE THEN, THE TRIFORCE HAS BECOME THE BASIS FOR HYRULE'S PROVIDENCE. WHERE THE TRIFORCE STOOD BECAME SACRED LAND.
IN THE VAST, DEEP FOREST OF HYRULE, THE GREAT DEKU TREE SERVED AS THE GUARDIAN SPIRIT. THE CHILDREN OF FOREST, THE KOKIRI, LIVED WITH THE GREAT DEKU TREE. EACH KOKIRI HAD HIS OR HER OWN GUARDIAN FAIRY, EXCEPT ONE. HIS NAME WAS LINK.
EARLY ONE MORNING, LINK WAS HAVING A NIGHTMARE. IT WAS THE SAME NIGHTMARE HE HAD EVERY NIGHT. DURING A STORM, LINK WOULD FIND HIMSELF STANDING IN FRONT OF A MYSTERIOUS CASTLE. A RIDER ON HORSEBACK, CARRYING A GIRL, WOULD RACE BY. THE GIRL WOULD LOOK AT LINK AS IF TO SAY SOMETHING. THEN, ANOTHER RIDER WOULD APPEAR. THIS BIG MAN CLAD IN BLACK WOULD LOOK DOWN MENACINGLY AT LINK.
LINK WOULD THEN AWAKEN.
"LINK! HEY, GET UP, LINK! THE GREAT DEKU TREE WANTS TO TALK TO YOU!"
AS LINK OPENED HIS EYES, HE SAW A FAIRY FLOATING IN FRONT OF HIM. THIS FAIRY'S NAME WAS NAVI. NAVI WAS SENT TO SUMMON LINK TO THE GREAT DEKU TREE.
"OH NAVI, THOU HAST RETURNED!" SAID THE DEKU TREE. "THANK YOU, LINK, FOR COMING. THY SLUMBER THESE PAST MOONS MUST HAVE BEEN RESTLESS, AND FULL OF NIGHTMARES. A VILE CLIMATE PERVADES THIS WORLD. VERILY, YE HAVE FELT IT. THE TIME HAS COME TO TEST THINE COURAGE. I HAVE BEEN CURSED. IN NEED YOU TO DISPEL THE CURSE WITH YOUR WISDOM AND COURAGE. ART THOU PREPARED?"
LINK ENTERED THE GREAT DEKU TREE AND BROKE THE CURSE.
"WELL DONE, LINK! I KNEW THAT YE WERE WORTHY OF CARRYING OUT MY WISHES. A WICKED MAN OF THE DESERT CAST THIS DREADFUL CURSE ON ME. EMPLOYING HIS VILE, SORCEROUS ENERGIES, THE EVIL ONE IS SEARCHING FOR THE SACRED REALM CONNECTED TO HYRULE. FOR IT IS THERE THAT ONE WILL FIND THE DIVINE RELIC, THE TRIFORCE, THAT CONTAINS THE ESSENCE OF THE GODS. WHOEVER HOLDS THE TRIFORCE CAN MAKE THEIR WISHES COME TRUE. THOU MUST NEVER ALLOW THE DESERT MAN TO LAY HIS HANDS ON THE SACRED TRIFORCE. THOU MUST NEVER SUFFER THAT MAN TO ENTER THE SACRED REALM OF LEGEND. LINK, GO NOW TO HYRULE CASTLE. THERE, YE WILL SURELY MEET THE PRINCESS OF DESTINY. PRESENT THIS STONE TO THE PRINCESS. I HAVE FORSEEN THAT SHE WILL UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING."
THE GREAT DEKU TREE GAVE LINK THE SPIRITUAL STONE OF THE FOREST. BEFORE DYING, THE DEKU TREE'S LAST WORDS WERE, "THE FUTURE DEPENDS UPON THEE, LINK. THOU ART COURAGEOUS." (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Instruction Booklet excerpt)
And so began Link's legendary quest that penetrates time itself. Link journeyed to Hyrule Castle and met the Princess of Destiny, Zelda. Together, they learned of the evil Ganondorf's intensions. Link ventured across Hyrule to gather the remaining spiritual stones. He visited the Gorons and Zoras and proved that he was worthy of receiving the spiritual stones of Fire and Water. On his way back to see Zelda, his dream became a reality. A storm rose up and the gates of the castle opened. Zelda's handmaiden, Impa, rode out of the castle with Zelda by her side. She saw Link and threw the Ocarina of Time into the moat. When Link turned around, he met with the evil man from his dream, Ganondorf.
Ganon asked Link where Zelda and Impa had gone, but Link would not answer. He readied his sword for an attack from Ganon. The King of Theives only laughed and blew him down with little effort. He rode off and left Link thinking about what to do next. Link jumped into the moat and retrieved the Ocarina of Time. He then proceded to enter the Sacred Temple of Time and open the Door of Time with the power of the spiritual stones. Then, he pulled the great Master Sword out of the Pedistal of Time and enter the Sacred Realm. But Ganon had followed Link and had finally gained access to the Sacred Realm of Legend. Before Link lose consciousnous, he heard Ganon's evil laugh as he stole the Sacred Relic.
Link woke up to find himself in a strange room that glowed with a mystic blue light. In front of him stood a man. This man called himself Rauru, the sage of light. He told Link of what had been happening while he slept. Link had slept for 7 years...until he was old enough to truely become the Hero of Time. Rauru told him one last thing before Link returned to Hyrule. Link had to awaken the other sages in order to defeat Ganon. After getting back to the Temple of Time, Link met a young warrior named Sheik. He told Link that he would help him on his adventure. Link ventured to the lands he had once known, and awakened the Sages, who were in fact his old friends. Each time, Sheik taught him a new melody that would help him. After awakening all of the Sages, it was time for Link to face the King of Evil, Ganon.
Link went back to the Temple of Time to find the last Sage. There he found the young Sheikah, Sheik. He then reveiled that he was in fact Princess Zelda. She told him that Ganon had not gained the whole Triforce, but merely a piece of it, the Triforce of Power. The other 2 pieces, the Triforce of Wisdom and Courage, were held by her and Link. She gave Link a weapon that would help him defeat Ganon, the Light Arrows. Just then, Ganon appeared and sealed Zelda in a magical crystal. He took her back to his castle while he merely laughed. Link returned to the Castle of Hyrule to save Zelda. But instead of the castle, Link found an evil castle that Ganon had created. Using the 6 sages power, he was able to enter the castle and face Ganon. He broke the spells which protected the Castle's core, Ganon's Tower, and ventured up to the final showdown with the Evil King.
Link and Ganondorf fought a hard battle which left both fighters exhausted. Link, using the magic of light and the power of the Master Sword, defeated Ganondorf. With the battle over and Ganon defeated it was a time of celebration. But that would have to wait, because with Ganon's last breath he tryed to crush them in the remains of his tower. Link and Zelda managed to escape, but in the rubble of the Tower, Ganondorf arose. Using the Triforce of Power, he transformed into a huge beast, Ganon. Link fought Ganon as long as he could hold out, until Ganon was weak enough for Zelda to temporarily hold. Link, using the Master sword, did the final blow, and with the power of the sages, he locked him inside the Dark part of the sacred realm he, himself created.
Link was returned to his time by Zelda with the power of the Ocarina of Time. It was time to rest from his endless struggle. And so ends this chapter in the Legend of Zelda story. |
